Whether you are a high school freshman or a first-year college or technical school student, you should be asking yourself, "Where do I want to go in life and how am I going to get there?" Whether you aspire to attend college or  technical school or if you just want to land a good job upon graduation, this website can help with making the choice.

Waiting until your senior year to think about a career choice is a mistake that many students make. It takes time to explore careers, carefully select the courses you need to take, and plan for financing your post-high school training.

The Career Center at South Effingham High School is the place to start. Not only is this website available to you at any time, the Media Center also has books, pamphlets, and videos that can help you with making choices and decisions that impact your future. Career Cruising

Career Cruising is a web-based career development program (similar to GCIS). This program provides access to a career matchmaker, a database of national college and universities, interviews with people from various careers, and portfolio capabilities to keep track of students' interests, classes, and extracurricular activities. Username and password are required--please see your counselor to obtain the school's username and password.

College Board--Career Browser

This link to the College Board's website offers suggestions for getting started as you explore careers and majors. Offers links to information on how to turn interests into jobs, identifying careers that require a college education, industry information, and more.

Peterson's Guide

Provides examples of career/job choices and gives ideas on how to finance your education.

My Future.Com

This site provides information on career opportunities, military options, and personal finance for individuals not planning to attend college.

Occupational Outlook Handbook

A source of career information providing valuable assistance to individuals making decisions about their professional futures.

Georgia Department of Labor
